Ocean Acidification, Deoxygenation and Marine Chemistry

Changes in ocean chemistry can have significant consequences for marine organisms, ecosystems, and biogeochemical cycles. This session explores ocean acidification, deoxygenation, nutrient dynamics, carbon cycling, and other chemical processes affecting marine environments. Discussions will examine how changing carbon dioxide concentrations and oxygen availability influence marine organisms and ecosystem functioning. Particular attention may be given to vulnerable species, coastal environments, coral reefs, and fisheries. Researchers will discuss monitoring techniques, chemical modeling, and approaches for understanding future changes in ocean chemistry. The connections between climate change and marine biogeochemical processes will also be considered. Improved knowledge of ocean chemistry can support ecosystem forecasting and conservation planning. The session encourages collaboration between marine chemists, oceanographers, biologists, and climate scientists to address emerging chemical challenges.
