Marine Mammals, Seabirds and Conservation Biology

Marine mammals and seabirds are important components of ocean ecosystems and can serve as indicators of environmental change. This session focuses on the biology, ecology, behavior, conservation, and population dynamics of marine mammals and seabirds. Topics will include whales, dolphins, seals, sea turtles, seabirds, migration, feeding behavior, reproduction, and habitat use. Discussions will examine threats such as pollution, fishing interactions, habitat loss, climate change, underwater noise, and human activities. Advanced tracking, acoustic monitoring, remote sensing, and genetic techniques may support improved conservation research. Researchers will share approaches for assessing populations and protecting critical habitats. Collaboration among marine biologists, conservation organizations, policymakers, and local communities will be encouraged. The session aims to strengthen conservation strategies for marine species and promote healthier ocean ecosystems.
