Coastal and Estuarine Ecosystems

Coastal and estuarine environments are highly productive ecosystems that support biodiversity, fisheries, communities, and economic activities. This session explores the ecology, conservation, and sustainable management of coastal and estuarine systems. Topics include mangroves, seagrass meadows, salt marshes, estuaries, coastal wetlands, and nearshore habitats. Discussions will address habitat degradation, pollution, coastal development, sea-level rise, erosion, and climate-related pressures. Restoration strategies and nature-based solutions will also be examined. Advanced monitoring and mapping technologies may help improve coastal ecosystem assessment and management. The importance of local communities and integrated coastal planning will be emphasized. Researchers will share approaches for improving ecosystem resilience and protecting valuable coastal resources.
