Climate Change and Ocean Systems

Climate change is influencing ocean temperature, circulation, chemistry, sea levels, ecosystems, and marine biodiversity. This session examines the complex interactions between climate change and marine systems. Topics include ocean warming, sea-level rise, ocean acidification, deoxygenation, changing currents, extreme marine events, and climate-related ecosystem shifts. Researchers will discuss methods for monitoring and modeling ocean responses to a changing climate. The effects of climate change on coral reefs, fisheries, polar environments, coastal ecosystems, and marine species will also be considered. Adaptation and resilience strategies may provide important pathways for reducing ecological and socioeconomic impacts. The session encourages collaboration between oceanographers, climate scientists, marine ecologists, and policymakers.
