Deep-Sea Research and Exploration

The deep ocean remains one of the least explored environments on Earth and contains unique ecosystems, geological features, and biological resources. This session focuses on deep-sea exploration, marine biodiversity, ocean geology, and extreme-environment research. Discussions will include deep-sea ecosystems, hydrothermal vents, cold seeps, deep-ocean organisms, seafloor processes, and marine mineral resources. Autonomous underwater vehicles, remotely operated vehicles, advanced sensors, and deep-sea imaging technologies will be highlighted. Researchers will share discoveries and challenges associated with studying remote marine environments. The potential environmental impacts of deep-sea resource exploration will also be considered. Improved understanding of deep-ocean systems can contribute to biodiversity conservation and responsible resource management.
