Marine Geology, Geophysics and Seafloor Processes

Marine geology and geophysics provide important insights into the formation, evolution, and physical processes of the ocean floor. This session focuses on seafloor geology, plate tectonics, sedimentation, marine minerals, underwater geological structures, and geophysical processes. Discussions will include submarine volcanism, earthquakes, hydrothermal systems, sediment transport, and deep-sea geological formations. Advanced mapping, seismic surveys, sonar technologies, and geophysical instruments will be considered. Understanding seafloor processes can contribute to natural hazard assessment, resource management, and marine environmental research. Researchers will share findings from different ocean regions and discuss emerging methods for exploring the seafloor. The session promotes collaboration between marine geologists, geophysicists, oceanographers, and engineers. It aims to advance scientific understanding of the geological processes shaping marine environments.
